Time To Put Away Childish Things
At what point did I actually become an adult? This is a question I’ve been asking myself every seven minutes or so over the last week. For the longest time I believed it was when I could rent R-rated movies at blockbuster without my parents permission.
Now that I have a job, especially one with benefits, what do I do now? I get to choose between two different health plans, a 401k, and a pension plan. These are not things you learn in school! Granted I did learn about what they were and the purpose of what they were for, but up until now the hardest decision I’ve made on my own is what I want for breakfast. I remember when I moved into the dorms during my freshmen year of college and my sister Heather asked me what the best part of living on my own was and my answer was, “I can eat nothing but Lucky Charms all day.” The Charms being that special treat cereal you would get only on special occasions or some sort of magical sale at super-valu.
I am living the American Dream. I am working hard for my money, oh so hard for the money, but what is it really for? I guess that is for everyone to find out on their own.
I just realized I’m sounding incredibly depressing, but I’m fine. I’ve just been reading way to much lately.
Love,
Adult Nick
P.S. The picture is from when I was just some innocent punk kid in November 2006. Issac and I have Decemberists tickets which was an amazing show. He is coming into town on the 7th and guess what… I have to work! Way to go capitalism.
