I Got Out Just In Time
I can’t belive it (ok, I can totally believe it, I am actually more surprised that it didn’t happen to me more while I lived in the area). A man was talking on his iphone and was attacked. One guy took the phone and went for the wallet, another came up and punched the victim and both scattered when someone yelled at them from across the street.

You see though… I USED TO WALK TO THIS STATION EVERY DAY! I would take the D striaght to the basement of my building. The main catalyst for moving in the first place was the lack of security in the neighborhood. For those who may not know or remember… I was punched in the face in the same neighborhood at 145th and Broadway, which is only a few blocks away from the assault on this poor man. Here is an account of the mugging from NYC The Blog.
The victim, a petite Asian man, replied that he has lived here for ten years. The officer again mentioned that this happens a lot around here, and recounted a man who has recently been mugged three times in one month, who is now so frightened to walk home that he recently asked the police, who have a station in the 145th St subway station, if they would walk him home, to which the officer responded slightly sheepishly, “we don’t do that,” suggesting instead that “he move out of the neighborhood.”
Having only moved out three weeks before this, it is a great reminder that I should never go back there again… I’ll mail my keys back.
