In the same vein as the Best CD’s of 2003, Spectrum Culture decided to apply the same formula to films from 2003. I wrote out my list and sent it in and low and behold my number one pick ranked within the top ten. I was asked to do a blurb about it and I was really excited, but realized to late that in San Francisco I didn’t have much access to the internet. So while down there we rented the movie (I wanted to show it to Mom and Shayna) and they both fell asleep, but I took notes and had it more or less written out in my head. I planned on being back in NYC mid-day the 18th, but arrived really late and after being stuck in the hell that is Newark International I decided to write it out on my iphone. It is short but sweet and next time I’ll do better.

My Top 10 of 2003

10. School of Rock
9. American Splendor
8. Old School
7. Monster
6. The Revolution Will Not Be Televised
5. Kill Bill vol 1
4. Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
3. 28 Days Later
2. Lost in Translation
1. Fog of War

Part of blurb:

In Errol Morris’ The Fog of War former secretary of defense Robert McNamara explains his actions and involvement in the Vietnam War. Like all of Morris’ documentaries, we are allowed to hear McNamara’s narrative as an oral history. The Fog of War follows McNamara’s life from his rise to the presidency of the Ford Motor Company through his bitter departure from the Department of Defense in 1967… The rest can be found here.

  1. Spectrum Culture: Best CDs of 2003 I was really excited for this assignment. Take a look back and figure out my favorite albums of 2003 and figure out which ones hold up today. It is an interesting take on the traditional “End of Year” list, and isn’t as contrived as taking a look at the ’60s...
  2. Spectrum Culture: Year One: Movies Man, I have been completely letting down my fan base. I haven’t updated in 3 weeks. I’m a terrible blogger… OR it is summer time in the city and I’m just lazy. Here is one that I should have put up on the 21st, I’ll try to be better in...
  3. Spectrum Culture: The Saddest Music in the World If you haven’t figured it out yet, I’m totally a sucker for these large articles on Spectrum where a bunch of writers get together and put together a collection of music or movies on a topic. I was sort of skeptical when it came to the topic of depressing songs....

Hey! I didn’t mean to fall asleep! I thought it was great.
If you hadn’t been rubbing my back the entire time I would have stayed awake ’til the very end.
But I got a back rub out of it, so I guess I really I can’t complain ;-)

Hey! I only fell asleep in Errol Morris’ lesson #8??? Ha! Ha! Ha! It was good movie. It had been a long wonderful day exploring as we soaked up and enjoyed the ‘City.’
