First Summer Project

Whatever could that be? Just a simple suitcase hanging on the wall? Oh, why don’t you open it up and find out what is inside… it is a suitcase liquor cabinet.

A few months ago, I came upon a guy on etsy who created a vanity from a suitcase. He had also created two suitcase liquor cabinets that looked awesome, so I used that as a starting point. Unfortunately those have sold for around $300 so they aren’t up on etsy anymore, but they were awesome. (I found it) I vowed if I found the right case, I would attempt to make one of my own.

Flash forward to a few weeks ago, I discover a neat little thrift store in my neighborhood while on a weekend bike ride, and I find this perfect suitcase for 10 bucks. I began to sketch out my plan of attack. I would need a few shelves, shot glasses, bottle opener, and some old fashioned glasses. I decided to go with glass flasks from the container store because I could fit five of them instead of the two or three regular liquor bottles.

Construction was a pain in the ass, everything you see there was made with hand tools and a dremel in my bedroom. So it isn’t perfect, but wood putty helped cover a bunch of the mistakes. The blue paint was left over from when I redid my desk, and luckily it matched perfectly. I threw some fake brown suede on the back, and for the leather strap I used a dog collar from petco.

Mounting it on a wall is a whole different story, and I’m going to need to seal up some holes before we move out, but overall, I am very pleased with how the whole thing came out. Now all I need is the booze. It will feature vodka, whiskey, rum, tequila, and gin. That and a cool looking wine opener for the other hook.
