Upcycled Suitcase Liquor Cabinet

This may seem like fimiliar territory, butI have created another liquor cabinet suitcase. This one has a way better story. I found it at the Brooklyn Flea in early January. After buying it for 25 bucks from a very nice man named Lionell, I took it home and started to plan it out. The major differences include, a hiding spot for a 6oz steel flask, and a cherry oak stain. The hinge on the side swings out a bit to reveal extra lables and a bottle opener.

I’ve created an etsy account and the listing can be found HERE. I’m trying to recoup the cost of parts and labor, not much more. I had a blast covering my room in sawdust to get this thing looking so nice. All I can hope is that someone actually wants to buy it. Liquor Bottle Lamps

I’ve just realized that I do a lot of projects that involve booze, its a good thing they tend to come out awesome. Over the weekend I made three liquor bottle lamps. Two out of Jaeger bottles, and the third from an old wine bottle for my roommate.

This was pretty easy, I cut a hole in the back of the bottle and fed a string of Christmas lights into it. A little shuffling with my high tech reorganizing light wand or “coat hanger” is it is also called, and it was done. I hope to sell the two green bottles online, I just need to make sure they are safe. The suckers get pretty hot after a few hours of being on, and condensation is building up on the inside… and that is bad. I’ll probably buy some beef jerkey and take the moisture packs out and use those.

I love the IT Crowd, if you haven’t seen it. PLEASE go out and pick up the DVDs of all three seasons. They get progressively better, and the best episode so far was in the middle of Series 3, Episode 4 titled “The Speech.” Jen has to give a speech as employee of the month about her field (IT/Computers) but doesn’t know anything about the subject. So she is helped out by her two coworkers and given “THE INTERNET.” I can’t tell you how many times I laughed at this scene and decided I must build my own.

This week, a new instructable came out about how to build a circuit that would do the same thing. I already had a blinking LED light from my robot santa costume, so I modified that a little bit, added a switch to turn it on and off without having to open the box and presto, I have the internet. I can’t hang onto it for that long though, I’ve got to take it to the top of the Empire State Building, where it gets the best reception.

NES Apple Remote

About a year ago I started this little project to wire my apple remote into an NES controller. At the time I had a really difficult time and it didn’t actually work out. This week I decided to dust it off and try again. My soldering skills have improved greatly as well as my understanding of electronics.

Here is the instructable I used to complete the project, and below is a video of it in use. You can control itunes with it. If I ever decide to turn my macbook into a low powered entertainment center for my kitchen someday, this might come in handy.

Santacon 2009: Tabloid Prodigy

And so it begins! After a quick google search, I found I had made it onto Tabloid Prodigy. I want to say this is the first (and only) time in print I’ve ever been described as “doable.”

I still can’t get over how much of a positive response I got from the whole day. I love Santacon, everybody is great, from those only wearing a hat, to our Jewish brothers who come out and celebrate as well. It was awesome, and much like I said last year, I’ve got about 11 months to think of something to top this… and I don’t think it is going to be that easy.
