Tiny Mix Tapes has posted my review of the band Uncle Monsterface from mid November. This one was interesting because I was asked to keep it down to 300 words, so I took it as an exercise in focusing my article. I hope it turned out for the best. The band is really interesting to say the least, I’ve seen them twice and if anybody in the Tri-State wants to blow their kid’s mind and have the best birthday party on the planet, I would highly recommend them. Ok, fine, I’ll admit, I would also like them to play my birthday party… hint… hint. Below is an exerpt, but you’ll have to go to TMT to find the full article.

On a cool November Friday night, Otto’s Shrunken Head became host to one of the geekiest things I’ve ever seen short of a Con of some sort. Surrounded by fruity drinks, bamboo, and ancient Land of the Lost episodes on a television, “sock puppet rock band” Uncle Monsterface take the stage.

It is early Thanksgiving morning. I have to be to work in a few hours but cannot fall asleep so I’m surfing the net and watching Live Free or Die Hard. I just wanted to throw this up here while I remember to do so, it is a photograph I took and applied “Tilt Pan Photography” to and it now looks like this. This is an actual picture from Comic Con this year and now they look like little train set people. So I challenge anybody reading this to play around with the same method I used and I want to see what you came up with. Winner will get its own post or something. I’ll try to make it good. Enjoy the holiday, I know I will because of double time and free food.

Also, watch for my new annual Thanksgiving video. Last years had loud music, what will this years have? Who knows? Ok, here is a hint, Sukie will be in it as well.

If there is one thing I doubt I’ll ever really understand about the net is the ability to keep something rolling for quite a long time. The video posted above is that of the band Big D and the Kids Table and their video for the song “Little Bitch,” a Specials cover. I posted the video on youtube on May 21, 2006 while in the ASUAF chambers, it was the first thing I had placed on youtube. Since then it has received close to 21,000 views.

I know that isn’t a large number by internet standards, but for 21,000 views of anything that I’ve done is a huge number, despite the fact that I had no role in the recording of the song or creation of the video. For the longest time I thought a record company was going to track me down and have me shot in my sleep over the unauthorized use of the video. If they are still trying to track me down… I live OVER THERE… *pitter patter running away sounds go here*

The only reason I mention this is because about once a week or so I will receive a message telling me that someone has commented on the video and they are ususally positive. Most just mention either the band themselves or some of the other people drinking in the video.

Worst part about the posting of this video is… I did it to show musician Matt Hopper that his poster is located above the left shoulder of the lead singer. He had to of played a show in Tempe, Arizona a short time before Big D got there and shot the video. I’m glad I got that one out into the open after so long.
