I’m An Official Graduate From UAF!

Next stop, graduation in May. My last grade was finally entered this afternoon. I got 2 A’s and 1 B for a summer GPA of 3.66, and an overall GPA of 3.06. I know, I rule. It only took 3 years to get my GPA above a 3.0 again. I made the deans list and should actually walk across the stage in Fairbanks on mothers day.

For those who want to send me money or presents. I’m currently trying to furnish a new apartment, so things like a couch or Fruit Loops will go a long way!

Its Official… I Think…

I have actually graduated. Although I won’t receive my diploma for a month or so, everything worked itself out. I have spent the last few weeks busting my ass to finish up History 132 and Technology 301 to get my degree. On top of that, freaking out over the graduation office telling me I was three upper division credits short. Somehow through the sheer strength of my will power I was able to complete both classes, keep my overall GPA above a 3.0 (3.01 still counts) and leave the state without having to say, “I’ve almost graduated.” I’m still getting used to saying that.

Since it has been a while since I have posted, here are a few lumped into one.

Leaving AK: Denny’s & Playground Runs
Tonight was a great twofer. We went to Alaskaland and played a rousing game of Apples to Apples. Once I had flipped over the table in anger over loosing, we headed over to the playground. Many a late nights have been spent running around both Fairbanks and North Pole finding the perfect playground to jump around on. These once great castles of splinters and pipes have now become gigantic plastic tables. What happened to the slide that was 30 feet in the air and would leave an 8 inch gash in your thigh if you went down it wrong? Although playing around on these sets were a lot of fun as a kid, as an adult you can do things you couldn’t before. Like running up the slide or no longer being able to use the monkey bars. The best part of the military has to be the obstacle course for these exact reasons.

Denny’s was a past time that nobody did as a child. I once asked my parents what that building was they said it was a hotel, thinking I was pointing at the Super 8 next door. I thought Denny’s was a hotel chain until I was 14. My first time felt like I was going into the forbidden zone my parents always warned me about. So many high school weekends were spent talking for hours over a constantly refilled cherry coke with Kim and Aurora. So many college nights spent ranting about our favorite South Park quotes or why we actually spent any time in the restaurant. The food was never the best, the service was even worse. Fairbanks does not have the advantage of “going to the other, better denny’s.” But we always made do with what we had. Tonight was spent with Cam, Ephy, and Angel. I shall miss you Farthest North Denny’s in the World, until May I guess.

Undeserved Sense of Accomplishment

After slightly more than four years, I will look exactly the same as I did in this picture from my high school graduation.

After a long journey through the hellish bureaucracy that is the UAF system. I got my final confirmation from the graduation office that if I didn’t completely bomb the two courses I took correspondence over the summer, I will actually receive a diploma. So right after I find an apartment and a job I will get right on having a party… a huge party!

On the leaving for New York front, everything is going alright. I am slowly going through my storage unit trying to get rid of as much dead weight as I can. So if anybody needs a nice office chair, $120, or a 21″ Phillips TV? How about $150? Any takers? Other than that I still need to find a place to live, track down a job, and purchase an airline ticket to the city. If anybody has the answers to any of these questions, please feel free to email me about them.

Oh, and if I have another person come up to me and say that going to New York is both scary and exciting is going to get a fork in the thigh. I am freaked out about it, not stressed yet, but that will come soon.
