I love taking quick pictures of things I find along the streets in NYC. Here is the first of what I would like to be a series of things I’ve found interesting while walking somewhere.

NYC Santacon 2008

I’m not quite sure why I decided to wait so long to make this post. At first I was going to have a Santa EXTRAVAGANZA, but now I believe just a low-key outing will suffice. I was joined over the course of the afternoon by both my roommates, Brooke and Lance and our friend Mallory.

This is my second year doing SantaCon. And as you might expect… I HAD A BLAST. Overall it was far more disorganized than last year, but the crowds were much larger. Where does one draw the line between confusion and chaos? For me, that moment came when eating in a deli along the trail and a girl started having seizures and needed to go to the hospital. Nothing like watching an EMT work towards the back of the store looking for a girl in red and white lying on the floor surrounded by several Santas.

I started out the day on very little sleep and the hope that I would be plastered by noon… this did not happen, and I don’t apologize to anyone for not drinking throughout the day. The last thing my system needed was alcohol after our FNR “holiday” party the night before. (To be fair, I didn’t drink a super amount there either)

Mp3 Experimenting

Sorry for the lack of posts. This afternoon we finally got cable and the internet. Now I don’t have to go outside all winter!

As for this weekend, it was strangely action filled. Even when I didn’t do all that much, it was still relatively better than most weekends spent on the north side of Manhattan. Below are a series of photos from Saturday’s Mp3 Experiment on Governor’s Island with Monica and Dave. In a nutshell, it is a thousand 20 somethings running around in a group all listening to the same mp3 of instructions in sync with one another. Our “lord” Steve gave us instructions such as thumb wrestle another person or twirl an umbrella above your head, in the end we had quite the “EPIC BATTLE” of the people wearing Blue and Green versus Red and Yellow.

I had a great time. I had wanted to participate for the past two years only to be in Alaska both times. Only complaint is with human nature. In any large groupthink situation, some people are going to take it WAY to far, and some to shy to participate. I fall right in the steady middle, not to outrageous but not standing still.

Many thanks to Improv Everywhere and Charlie Todd for throwing it, I can’t wait to bring MORE people to it next fall. The following pictures were taken during our meditation and relaxation portion of the program with the exception of the last pic.

Best thing of the day was this girl below with the umbrella hat recognized me from the pillow fight. I had interviewed her and her father at the event because he was wearing a hard hat with a bulls eye on it. I was walking away when she noticed me, so I excused myself saying, “I am not surprised at all to find you here.”

Shayna’s Visit – The Remix

Sunday I had to send Shayna home. It was hard to do, but each day brings her ever so much closer. I would love to sit here and write page after glorious page of how great her visit was, but I’m pretty sure 3 of the 5 people who read this would rather me not. Let me end by saying, I was fearless on the Wonder Wheel, even though Shayna was scared out of her mind when it went on the loopy part and had to hang onto the seat for comfort. And that Bacon Cheese dog wasn’t my first Nathan’s Hot Dog (this coming from the guy who covered the eating contest for gosh sake). Enjoy, lord knows I had a blast, with the exception of those days I got sick and couldn’t really do anything. *Those last two things might be not quite accurate. Many more can be found on my Flickr.

Cutest Rat Ever…

On my way to work every day I like to look down onto the tracks to see if anything cool has fallen down there. Usually it is total garbage and grime and sadness, but alas I found a family of rats on the tracks. There was a Mama rat and three baby rats running close behind. But one of the baby rats had a little green bow around its midsection. It was so cute, just this little rat had a nice green ribbon and it just kept going along with its rat like day.
Eventually I realized it was the ring off of the top of a milk carton. Much like fish getting caught in a plastic 6-pack holder, this little baby rat had crawled into it and got stuck. I felt so bad for the little guy, and as soon as he noticed I was sad, he popped right out of it and went on with his day. He will probably look like this little guy on the right when he grows up. Leave me alone no longer cute baby rat.
