The Year I Learned To Hack

2009 was a huge year for me as I slowly began to teach myself how to solder and hack in general. Below is a photo gallery of what I created over the past 12 months, and a few ideas of what is to come. There are a few small ones that I don’t have up here and the large one I don’t have pictures of is a circuit bent speak & spell that makes really cool noises.

A Lego USB drive. I hope to eventually make these and sell them with an etsy account. I need to figure out a better process for cutting through the plastic and where to place the hole for the drive.

My Suitcase Liquor Cabinet! I’ve covered this thing a lot in the past. It is just awesome, really. We actually use the thing (mostly because it is where I keep a majority of my booze). I would like to give the bottles labels eventually and maybe add a chalk board to the inside to show “drink specials.”

A pipe fitting lamp. It was made earlier this year and I’ve learned a lot since. Hopefully a second version will have a switch and better glue for the pipes so they stay stable. This is also a possible etsy project.

Floating Bookshelf. This was pretty easy and looked cool on my wall until I switched rooms, maybe they will live on in the apartment after we leave.

Zombie Repellent Gun. This thing looks cool and it could become my next project again because I’m going to have to build my own shadow box to house the thing and “shells.”

Suitcase Cat Bed. I was on a roll there with the suitcases. This one was pretty simple and I always get a kick when I find Sukie actually enjoying it.

Santacon Robot. If you’ve read my blog over the past few posts, you know all about it.

Finally, the workbench. After receiving the gift of powertools for Christmas from my father, I filled my room with lumber and made a Bre Pettis inspired workbench. It is 5 x 2.5 ft and takes up a huge chunk of my room, but one look at it covered with the parts of these past projects and you know it belongs there. Eventually I hope to cover the thing with Legos and secure them with resin. It is going to be expensive so for right now this one is on hold.

Every so often I wonder what the hell my cat does all day while I’m at work. I’m pretty sure she goes on wild adventures around the city, saving lives and defeating terrorists whenever they threaten the city. Or… she sleeps. Below is a picture montage of the corner of my bed taken in mid March. The timeframe lasts from when I left for work around noon, to somewhere around 7pm when it got to dark and you could no longer see anything. If you look carefully… you can see her sleeping

We Can Has Pizza? LOL!

This is a card that Shayna sent to me, along with two pizzas and a 2 liter bottle of Pepsi. It was a plan that more or less went off without a hitch. Shay and Brooke were in on the deal and some very sexy persuasion was used to get me home quickly. I sent her flowers a few weeks ago, she sent me pizza. I think it evens out pretty well.

Sorry I haven’t been updating as much as last week. I have just been putting a lot into trying to use the advantages that wordpress provides that blogger does not. Quick update on life… I’m loosing at my American Idol work pool, and I’ve been drinking a lot more tea than usual.
